Dr. Shevach Friedler

Dr. Shevach Friedler, was born in the year 1952 in Romania and graduated in the Medical Faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel in 1979. He got the Medical faculty prize for excellence in the research work on his M.D. thesis. He then did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bikur Cholim Hospital, Jerusalem affiliated to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Then he did a fellowship in Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology at Stanford University Hospital, California, USA.

Dr. Friedler started his clinical work and research in the field of infertility in the year 1985. During his fellowship at Stanford University he specialized in In Vitro Fertilization and did research in the fields of oocyte and embryo cryopreservation. He also specialized in gynecological endoscopy- hyteroscopy and laparoscopy procedures related to infertility treatment.

In 1987 Dr. Friedler completed a subspecialization in clinical andrology, at the Male Infertility Institute, Hakirya Hospital, Tel-Aviv, under Prof. Homonai. From 1987 he was in charge of the male and female infertility clinic and founded the hysteroscopy service of Bikur-Cholim Hospital in Jerusalem as a senior physician. In 1989 he trained in embryo cryopreservation at the Hopital Antoine Beclert, Clamart, France under Prof. Testart. He also trained at the Centre of Reproductive Medicine in the Academisch Ziekenhuis-Vrije Universiteit Brussel directed by Prof. Van Steirteghem and Prof. Devroey, to perform Zygote-Intrafallopian-Transfer (ZIFT). Then he was invited to join the IVF unit team at the Hadassa University Hospital in Jerusalem, as a senior physician. Together with Prof. Neri Laufer he established the first Israeli Registry for IVF pregnancies and deliveries. He was one of the first physicians in Israel to perform surgical percutaneous epidydimal and testicular sperm aspirations for patients with azoospermia.

In 1996 Dr. Friedler was invited to join the Infertility and IVF Unit at the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, as a senior physician, where he is currently part of the team.

Since 2003, Dr. Friedler is the Director of a large male and female infertility clinic in Tel-Aviv, of Kupat-Cholim Meuchedet.
As a clinician, Dr. Friedler has more than 20 years of successful experience in treating male and female infertility, ovulation inductions and performing oocyte retrievals and embryo transfers for in vitro fertilization.
The academical activity of Dr. Friedler started at 1996 with teaching of students in the Sakler School of Medicine of the Tel Aviv University. He got the degree of lecturer and then senior lecturer in 2003. Currently he is a candidate for promotion to professorship. He was a Member of Commitee of the syllabus for gynecological clarkship for medical students, Sakler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. He has 89 publications in the international medical journals: 55 original articles; 13 case reports, 8 review articles; 7 chapters in books and 6 monographs. Most of these publications appeared in the two leading journals in the field of reproduction – the Journal of Fertility and Sterility and the Journal of Human Reproduction. Many of his publications are pioneer works in the field of treatment of azoospermia. He took active part in 52 international and national scientific meetings, so far, and was a member of organizing commitees, chairman of sessions, member of award commitees of poster presentations, presented 110 scientific presentations. Dr. Friedler is a member in 4 professional societies and is a reviewer in 6 international scientific journals. He also was a member of the Commitee of the Israeli Fertility Asociation.
